Diabetes Club golf outing a hot success

Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley held their second annual “Tee Off to Defeat Diabetes” golf outing, Friday, June 21, at Bliss Creek Golf Course, 1 Golf View Road, in Sugar Grove, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start, in 90 degree-plus temperatures.

Golfers who participated in the Diabetes Club of Fox Valleys second annual ‘Tee Off to Defeat Diabetes’ golf outing, Friday, June 21, had an opportunity to drive home a new 2024 Buick with a hole-in-one on the 16th hole at Bliss Creek Golf Course in Sugar Grove. Morning radio host, Scott Mackay, from 95.9 The River, joined 77 other golfers, with aim of being the first golfer with a a hole-in-one, on the 16th hole, and win a new 2024 Buick, compliments of Ray Buick, 5011 W. 63rd Street, in Chicago. The new 2024 Buick was on display and ready for a lucky golfer to drive it home. Unfortunately, no one scored a hole-in-one, however, it was reported that two players were within a few inches of winning the car.

When all the golfers completed their rounds, it was time for the banquet to begin, in the air-conditioned Pine Room. Seventy-eight hungry golfers, along with an additional 32 Club members and guests, enjoyed a delicious steak dinner with all the trimmings.

Immediately following dinner, golf co-chair, Matt McCain, announced the winners and handed out the prizes for: Longest drive on Hole No. 14 for a woman went to Cindy Ellis, and for a man went to Mike Bodie. Closest to Hole No. 8 for a woman went to Rose Alvis, and for a man went to Mark Walter. Team I.B.E.W. won top team for this year’s event.

The large display of baskets everyone had been purchasing tickets to win throughout the day, finally began. Jenny McCain, fundraising chair had put together more than 40 baskets, valued from $80 to more than $200. in value.

The 50/50 cash drawing, conducted by Club president Russ George, was the final drawing of the evening. The lucky winner of $630, Verne Bjornson, was not in attendance.

Russ George, president, ended the evening by thanking everyone in attendance, including the Club’s golf committee, Adam Broholm, golf chair; Matt McCain, golf co-chair; Jenny McCain, fundraising chair, Tony Arch, Joanie Boldan, Kevin Dempsey, Jimmy Klingel, Carlos Martinez, and Jimmy Schmidt. He thanked Carter Crane from The Voice and Scott Mackay from 95.9 The River, for their help in promoting our golf outing. He gave a shoutout of thanks to Bliss Creek Golf Course and staff members, and a big thank you to all the golfers for supporting the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley.
