The artwork of dozens of Naperville students will appear in the Naperville Police Department’s 2020-2021 Crime Prevention Calendar. This is the 34th year the Crime Prevention Calendar has been created to share students’ artwork and crime prevention messages with elementary school families throughout Naperville.
This year’s calendar is a compilation of the “best of the best” artwork featured in calendars from 2015 to 2019, chosen by staff members at the Naperville Police Department. The closure of school buildings in early March due to COVID-19 left many students unable to complete and turn in their artwork in time for this year’s calendar competition. In the interest of continuing the tradition of producing the calendar, police staff decided to move forward with a calendar featuring the best of the best artwork and a special focus on first responders and the community working together to keep Naperville safe and operational during the pandemic.
In lieu of an in-person ceremony recognizing students whose artwork was selected for the calendar this year, Naperville Police chief Bob Marshall and mayor Steve Chirico posted a short video of congratulations at www.youtube.com/OfficialNapervilleIL.
The Crime Prevention Calendar is a community service project sponsored by the Exchange Club of Naperville, Crime Stoppers, Naperville School District 203, Indian Prairie School District 204, All Saints Catholic Academy, Bethany Lutheran School, Calvary Christian School, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School and St. Raphael Catholic School.
The calendars are distributed free of charge to elementary school students in District 203, District 204 and five area private schools. This year, 23,000 calendars were produced and will be distributed to students by their schools when possible. A digital version of the calendar, with different editions for District 203, District 204 and Naperville’s private schools, is available at www.naperville.il.us/NPDSchoolPrograms.
