Geneva High School boys track and field team savors Friday’s Kane County Meet championship and looks forward to a hotly-contested inaugural DuKane Conference meet at Lake Park Friday. Isaiah Davis looks forward to his first school as a varsity head basketball coach at Metea Valley. The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) inducted new members into its Hall of Fame Saturday.

• “We scored in 16 out of 18 events,” Geneva boys head track coach Gale Gross said. “Our strength has been in our team coming together and pulling for each other. We had a few kids who were not seeded in the top 10 score big points by placing fourth and fifth: Eric Palmquist in the 3200 meters run and our 4×4 are just a couple of examples. Our numbers are low and we have many kids doing multiple events. Wheaton Warrenville South won the indoor conference and will be hard to beat.”

• Coach Davis is an alum of Aurora Christian High School under Don Davidson. He was a leader on the team that won a 2000 sectional championship. “I have many memories,” he said. “I coached (as assistants) at Aurora Christian for seven years, five years at Waubonsie Valley, and three years at Metea. My philosophy is built on aggression on both ends of the floor….agressive/pressure type defense and look to push the tempo on offense. I am a school counselor during the day at Waubonsie.”

• Bob Mattingly of Aurora Central Catholic, Waubonsie Valley, and Neuqua Valley was inducted into the IBCA Hall last weekend. Other coaches inducted: Al Gruidl, Plano, Dom Cannon, York; media member, the late Craig Sager from Batavia.
