George C. Babcock’s funeral was Friday, July 19 at Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served 1963-1965. He was homeless and lived beneath a bridge in Joliet. He was being given a funeral with military honors but had no known family and therefore he would be buried alone. Joliet area citizens and veterans came to the rescue. There were hundreds of cars and motorcycles. It was close to 100 degrees. So many came to say thank you to George! Then there were the people who brought coolers to give out water to those who were attending.
