“Self-Care for Caregivers”, an interactive workshop for family caregivers older than the age 50, will be presented at Panera Bread, 154 W Wilson Street, Batavia, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27.
The workshop will be led by Karen Hunter, a certified holistic wellness coach and family caregiver of 20-plus-years.
The workshop will help caregivers learn to care for themselves, first by honoring their feelings, communicating their needs, developing a support system, and using stress-reduction techniques, nutrition, and exercise to learn to thrive, not just survive, as a caregiver.
It will provide caregivers an opportunity to connect with others in similar situations, which Hunter believes is an important part of thriving as a caregiver.
“Isolation, in addition to not expressing feelings and neglecting one’s own health, is a key factor in why caregivers frequently experience burnout and poor health,” Hunter said. “I know from personal experience how challenging caregiving is, and what a toll it can take on the caregiver. I want to share my experience and expertise with others and hopefully make their paths a little easier.”
The cost of the workshop is $1.. You may contact Hunter at karen.karenhu@gmail.com to register and/or ask questions, or Text only to 847-962-0618, or you may join her meetup at www.meetup.com/Golden Legacies: Inspiring Gatherings for People Over 50.
A 1979 graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans and a 2013 graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Karen Hunter is a certified holistic wellness coach who specializes in helping those over age 50 reclaim joy and vitality and fulfill their dreams as they enter their golden wisdom years.
