The city government of Aurora is seeking public input to complete its 2020-2024 Consolidated Plan.
Each year, Aurora receives Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. CDBG and HOME funds are intended to create viable communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanded economic opportunities for low and moderate income residents.
To participate in these programs, the city government is required to develop the City of Aurora Consolidated Plan, which identifies community needs, priorities for spending, and projected projects designed to address their needs and priorities Policies and priorities outlined in this plan will shape nearly $12 Million in federal investment over the next five years.
“Public participation is an important component in the development of the 2020-2024 Consolidated Plan,” said Chris Ragona, Aurora community development manager. “The results will provide input and advice to the City about the distribution of these federal grant funds for housing and community development activities over the next five years.”
Aurora residents, businesses, and key stakeholders can participate in the process in four ways:
• Informal Forum: An informal forum was set to be held Wednesday, Aug. 14 at Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place. The open house allowed participants to speak personally with city government staff members, learn about existing programs, gather community data and share ideas.
• Public Hearing: Immediately following the informal forum, a public hearing was set to be held Wednesday, Aug. 14 at Aurora City Hall. The hearing provides a formal opportunity to testify about housing and community development needs.
• Written Comments: Participants can submit comments until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, to Chris Ragona, community development manager. Comments can be submitted to cragona@aurora-il.org or mailed to Aurora City Hall c/o Chris Ragona, 44 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60505.
• Online Survey: A comprehensive survey is available in English and Spanish at www.aurora-il.org/2027/2020-2024-Consolidated-Plan. The survey will be open until the close of business Friday, Aug. 30. Paper copies will be available upon request.
