Aurora residents, Charles and Karen Lorence of Lorence’s Honey Bee Haven, center, receive mugs following their presentation on beekeeping Tuesday at the Kiwanis Club of Aurora meeting at the Prisco Center. They have been keeping bees for 48 years and have maintained 26 beehives. Their presentation included information about the different kinds of bees and facts about pollination. They expressed concern that even though beekeeping is one of the fastest-growing hobbies, the declining numbers of bees is bad for global agriculture. They extract pure honey and beeswax, they create skin care products, beeswax candles, lotion bars, lip balm, honey soaps, and furniture polish. They perform pollination and hornet- and wasp-nest removal. President Steve Andras, left, and past-president Kim Groom, right, present the mugs.
