Along with the holiday light displays that illuminate downtown Aurora at night, bold backlit parking signs brighten the entrances to the newly-reconstructed Parking Lot E, just east of Broadway between New York Street and Galena Boulevard.
After a two-month renovation project, the parking lot was put back online recently with immediate use by owners, employees, and patrons, of the businesses on Broadway Avenue and throughout downtown.
The signs were fabricated and installed by the Aurora Sign Company.
“It has been our pleasure to work with the City of Aurora team,” said Brandon Weis of Aurora Sign Company. “Downtown Aurora’s energy is quite electric these days and shows no signs of stopping. Keep dreaming and Aurora Sign Company will keep fabricating.”
In addition to the new signs, enhancements include:
• Adding a second access point off of New York Street;
• Reconfiguring parking spots to have a north-south orientation similar to the access points instead of an east-west orientation;
• Removing interior islands to create better traffic flow;
• Removing the metallic façade along the back of the buildings;
• Consolidating all garbage bins in one covered location;
• Adding additional LED lighting to better illuminate the lot.
Another key part of the project will be the improvement of the alley walkway from the parking lot to Broadway. The walkway will see structural improvements, beautification, and additional lighting similar to the hanging string lights along Water Street Mall.
The project is part of a comprehensive downtown economic development and improvement plan.
