Holy Cross Catholic School in Batavia opened Celebrate Catholic Schools Week Sunday, Jan. 26 with activities for students, parishioners, and community members.
This year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed. Sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association, the celebration provides a showcase for the importance, value and contributions of Catholic education to the church and the world.
Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Council 2151 served a free pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Donovan Hall. Tabletop displays touted Holy Cross School educational programs and activities and school tours and registration were offered.
Future events announced were the church’s 51st annual Batavia Brotherhood Banquet and groundbreaking for Saint John Paul Perpetual Adoration Chapel.
Batavia mayor Jeffery D. Schielke will be the keynote speaker at the banquet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the church, 2300 Main St. in Batavia. The public is invited. Admission is a $20 donation.
Groundbreaking for Perpetual Adoration Chapel is set for Monday, May 18. Dedication is scheduled for October 22.
