Clear and concise, week four:
• Task and gift are nouns and not verbs. Often we hear and read that one has been tasked or that one person gifted another. Ouch. We receive tasks and gifts, or give a task or a gift. We should learn how to use them. Verbs and nouns are not interchangeable.
• Shall and will: Shall should be used with a first-person pronoun and will with second and third-person pronouns, such as I shall, you will, they will. Legal language, in an apparent desire to make a statement have strength, will write: You shall or they shall.
• Who is used to refer to a person. Often the word that is used when it should be who.
