With shoes shined, medals and ribbons perfectly aligned and with “covers” set properly on their heads, Mooseheart’s Naval Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (NJROTC) platoon prepared for its Annual Military Inspection Friday, Feb. 14.
That inspection was carried out by U.S. Navy Commander Joe Hankins, the Area 3 Manager of the NJROTC program and the good news was that the Mooseheart platoon proved it was well-prepared for the event. Hankins inspects many NJROTC programs as his area extends from West Virginia to Nebraska, encompassing 55 units and 8,000 cadets.
“I thought they did very well,” Hankins said of Mooseheart’s platoon. “You could tell that the majority of them worked very hard at getting their uniforms ready. There’s always those ‘attention to detail’ things that I see and I give them the constructive feedback when I see something that’s incorrect. Overall, I was very pleased with these cadets today.”
The vast majority of Mooseheart’s cadets got exemplary grades for their appearance. Hankins handed out ribbons following the inspection to those whose appearance was exemplary.
NJROTC participation is a requirement for all Mooseheart High School students.
“We want to ensure that these cadets understand what life in the service is all about. But we want them to ‘serve’ in other ways as well, whether it’s in the school, the community and or for their country after they graduate,” Hankins said.
