Just Food Initiative (JFI) is on the move to educate the next generation on healthy eating! One of our upcoming projects is a collaboration with Communities In Schools (CIS) of the West Aurora Public School District 129. CIS is on a mission to surround students with community of support and JFI is on the job! JFI believes that community partnerships only strengthen our mission to promote quality and equality in our food systems. Educating the next generation is the best way to ensure a healthier society that promotes food justice.
JFI is excited to have its staff member, Elizabeth Gonnella, as lead on this project. Gonnella will visit parents during after-school hours in three of the West Aurora Public Schools. During these visits, she’ll teach nutrition tips, healthy-eating habits, and zoning in on the impact of sugars. Because sugars can have such harmful impacts on children’s diets, JFI wants to educate families on what to avoid in the food industry and how to better our children’s diets.
Parents and educators will appreciate the support for their families. Students will learn the realities of sugar consumption, and how to make healthier choices as they grow up. A healthier life equals healthier families!
