An Elm tree more than 100 years old makes a transition after it had to be cut down recently by the city government workers of Aurora in a City right-of-way on Downer Place. The tree that was seven feet in diameter at the base, miraculously survived the Dutch Elm Disease plague of the 1950s that almost caused the extinction of the Elm tree species. Homeowner Heber Sambucetti stands on the remaining stump after the tree was cut down. He plans to hire Auroran Matt Hook, owner of Big Slab Lumber, to memorialize the tree by making a piece of furniture, possibly a table for the foyer of the Sambucetti home.
