Kane County clerk John A. Cunningham announced the results of Tuesday’s lottery for the party ballot placement on the ballot for the November 3 General Election.

Per state statute, each election authority, including the Kane County Clerk’s Office, must conduct a lottery of the major political parties to determine which party’s candidates will be listed first on the ballot for the General Election.

The Clerk’s Office conducted the lottery by selecting, at random, the name of one of the major political parties. The name of the Democratic Party was chosen at random. As a result, the Democratic Party candidates that were nominated at the March 17 Primary Election will be listed first on the November 3 General Election ballot.

Sample ballots will be posted on the Clerk’s website once the ballot is certified later this Summer.

Clerk Cunningham said, “I want to encourage Kane County voters to consider applying for a Vote by Mail for the November 3 General Election. If you choose to Vote by Mail, you can vote from the convenience of home and avoid crowds and avoid public interaction on Election Day. While we do not know how the situation with the virus will change between now and November, you won’t have to worry about any of those concerns if you choose to Vote by Mail.”

Kane County voters can complete a Vote by Mail ballot application beginning August 5.Applications can be completed online at the Clerk’s website, www.kanevotes.org, at that time. State law currently prohibits the processing of Vote by Mail applications until August 5.

As the election authority for Kane County, the Clerk’s Office provides many resources for those who wish to be informed about elections. Through the Voter Outreach Program, the VoteMobile, participation in community events, Facebook www.facebook.com/kanecountyclerk, website www.kanevotes.org, and Twitter @KaneCoILClerk, the Clerk’s Office provides information and resources directly to Kane County residents.
