Virtual mentoring session with young men

Aurora Deputy Chief of Police Keith Cross and Kane County Judge Rene Cruz share their experiences and life lessons with the young men in the Boys II Men mentoring group Sunday, in a 45-minute mentoring session on a Zoom video conference. With another month of the Stay at Home Order ahead, remote learning and no in-person classes and so much uncertainty, it can be easy to just want to throw in the towel or not stay focused on goals, especially with the Class of 2020 that is missing so many milestones. Prior to COVID-19, the city government of Aurora launched a citywide mentoring alliance as a result in an uptick in violence, particularly with minority youth. Although in-person contact isn’t allowed at this time, personal connections between leaders and youth are still vital. Submitted photo
