The Aurora Fire Department responded to the intersection of Orchard Road and Indian Trail Avenue for a motor vehicle crash with injuries at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 23. Initially one Engine Company, Paramedic Unit, and EMS Battalion Chief responded to the incident. Upon arrival firefighters and paramedics found a two-vehicle crash with heavy damage to both vehicles with two critically injured victims trapped, one in each vehicle, requiring extrication.
The incident was upgraded to an Extrication response dispatching a Truck Company and an additional Battalion Chief and Paramedic Unit to the scene. While assessing both patients, paramedics requested a medical helicopter to land at the scene as well. Paramedics began to treat and stabilize both patients while firefighters from the Truck Company extricated the patients with assistance from the Engine Company. One patient was transported to an area hospital by paramedic unit while the other patient was airlifted to an area trauma center.
