Meredith Lindgren of Aurora, widow of Bruce Lindgren who died of ALS, is inviting friends of Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora and other interested participants to hold neighborhood walks to raise funds for ALS Association on Saturday, June 6. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the association is moving the annual fundraiser from Cantigny Park in Wheaton to walkers’ neighborhoods.
Lindgren said, “Instead of a 2,000-person walk to raise funds and awareness, the ALS Association is asking that teams do individual small walks in their own neighborhoods. Team members can get together as they are comfortable and stage a walk around their blocks, their yards, or, whatever.
“My kids and I are planning to get together on June 6 and walk around my neighborhood, carrying signs, and pictures, of Bruce. We will then have a backyard BBQ to celebrate Bruce in grand fashion!
“The theme this year is the same as last year: Superheroes. I may wear a cape and a mask, just for fun! And, of course, my Brucester’s Brewsters T-shirt! And this year the dogs will walk with me! Here is the website: web.alsa.org/chicagowalk.”
Meredith and Bruce were married for 40 years. Meredith is Sunday service coordinator at Wesley UMC.
