Dillion wins in Texas; Kyle Busch struggles

NASCAR Cup Series, O’Reilly Auto Parts 600, Texas Motor Speedway, Fort Worth, Texas, Sunday, July 19.

A wreck occurred in the last 10 laps of the race which allowed Austin Dillion to get up front for the first time in the race. He led the final restart and took his third career NASCAR victory. Second was teammate Tyler Redick, Joey Logano in third place, Kyle Busch in fourth, and Kevin Harvick in fifth. It looked as though it was going to be Ryan Blaney’s day with Ryan capturing both the first and second stages.

• Just a few days earlier, Wednesday, July 15, the All-Star Open and the All Star race took place at Bristol Motor Speedway. The race was normally run at Charlotte Motor Speedway on a Saturday night. Overall winner was stage three winner Chase Elliott, and following was Kyle Busch in second place, Harvick in third, Brad Keselowski in fourth, and Denny Hamlin in fifth.

Earlier was the All-Star Open race won by Matt Dibenedetto. The first stage was won by Aric Almirola and second stage winner was William Byron.

NASCAR Cup Series, Quaker State 400, Kentucky Speedway, Florence, Ky., Sunday, July 12.

Winner was Cole Custer, Martin Truex, Jr, was in second place, Dibenedetto in third, Harvick in fourth, and Kyle Busch in fifth.

At this time last year Kyle Busch had won four races. So far this year he hasn’t won a stage or a race!

• The Coke Zero race will be the final race of the regular season and will be at Daytona, Fla. August 24. The NASCAR playoff or championship race will be at Phoenix, Raceway November 8.

Rumor has it that Chicagoland Raceway and Route 66 Dragstrip will remain closed with no NHRA or NASCAR events for at least the end of the season.

The Xfinity Nascar cars with Robby Gordons Stadium trucks will be at Road America second weekend in August!
