Activists Sadiiq Rasheed, left, and Brandy Gilliam of Aurora, express urgency for grassroots organizations to work together at the Gathering of the Grassroots event Saturday in Aurora’s McCarty Park. The emphasis of the meeting was for grassroots organizations to network and unite to gain strength to better serve the community. Representatives from grassroots organizations were allowed to share what they need and the collaboration they are looking for. Organizations that attended include African American Men of Unity, ECHO, Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice, Indivisible Aurora, P.O.B.U.M.S. Society, Sierra Club, The People’s Coalition, and TIER. Future events are planned with a goal to let the masses know that there are people who are speaking up and trying to make Aurora a better place for the children. Jason Crane/The Voice
