Oh, the weather outside is soon to surely turn frightful. Why not stay warm inside and read? How delightful! With the weather getting colder, it is time to stay home and curl up with a few books, and what a better way to do so than by participating in Aurora Public Library District’s (APLD) Winter Reading Adventure Challenge!
From December 1 to January 31 of 2021, you can join in for this year’s Winter reading adventure. The adventure will be completely virtual and provides safe and fun activities to connect and learn December through January 2021. Participants will need to complete 10 of the Winter-themed reading challenges prior to January 31, 2021 to win their prize. For every challenge completed, participants will earn badges. Feeling extra confident? Those who complete an additional 10 more challenges will earn bonus winnings.
“The Winter Reading Adventure supports the Library’s School Success and Feed Your Imagination pillars by providing opportunities for children and young readers to practice their reading skills and to engage with what they are reading or listening to,” said senior children’s services manager, Dana Russell.
Challenges range from anything as easy as giving one of the Library’s digital databases a try to learning about a Winter holiday you don’t normally celebrate. Other challenges may require more legwork, such as learning about a new topic or traversing to various locations around Aurora. Do not worry, some challenges will keep you warm inside and cuddled up with a good book. All activities can be done more than once and best part of all, it’s open to all ages!
You can join in the fun by registering online through the Beanstack website at aurorapubliclibrary.org/wra, or you can download the Beanstack Tracker App through the Apple App and Google Play stores. Don’t have internet access? Find a printed log with your curb-side materials!
Completion prizes will be scheduled for pick-up at the conclusion of the Winter Reading Adventure.
“This adventure offers children, teens and adults the opportunity to participate in activities that will spark their imaginations and provide fun learning opportunities for them and their families,” Russell said.
