The term offers a hushed tone: The 100th Kane County boys track and field meet. The State’s second oldest continuous high school track meet. Only the State meet is older. The meet was competitive and many performers and teams were encouraged on the eve of the conference, then sectional meets this week and next.
Friday’s 100th meet was held at East Aurora High School’s new and fine track, surrounding the football field. Batavia won its fourth consecutive Kane County championship and showed the necessary strength. Kaneland, seeking a top three finish, was happy with second place, followed by West Aurora, Dundee-Crown, and Geneva. Dundee-Crown captured the most first place finishes. Batavia took many finishes in the top six.
“We moved the kids around to several new events,” head coach Dennis Piron said. “It’s all about depth for meets down the road. We have a great group of young coaches who dispersed the kids in the events.”
