In The Beginning

That God helps those who help those who can’t help themselves
Is only one way that a godly effort delves.
Into our actions, most often in such a way
We never knew that God had been there, felt His play.

His actions rarely will divert our history,
But it has happened, sometimes very openly.
Since our first colonists came here, one thought in mind,
To seek God in their own way, God was so inclined.

And so, in many ways, God was at our side.
What would we do if we had Liberty as guide?
But we had many avenues of strife to score;
The rebel/tory factions, English rule, the war.

Our character was born in that war, at length;
Indomitable may come to mind, defining strength.
We seized and held a sense of humor, now a trait;
Abilities for thinking on our feet, as great.

I think that God had the time of His life through those years.
We kept life simple, but with that we had no fears.
Our Constitution was a call beyond compare;
And what was needed would be done, no wear and tear.
