High school and college basketball teams, boys and girls, men and women, are grateful, mainly, just to have a season, which has been modified by COVID-19. High school players must wear masks in their six-week season. They are making the best of it.
Players’ and fans’ adjustments include no annual East-West game in Aurora. East Aurora is in the Upstate Eight Conference and West Aurora is in the Southwest Prairie West.
The two teams met in their last game last season in a State Lockport Sectional semifinal. East Aurora defeated West Aurora, 61-50, Wednesday, March 11, 2020 on the last day of high school games. The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) canceled the rest of the season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This six-week season will end March 13 without State playoff games and without a State tournament.
East Aurora High School, through Monday, was in second place in the Upstate Eight with a 5-1 record and 5-1 overall. Bartlett was in first place, 6-0 and 8-2.
