State representative Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, has been appointed to serve as chair person of the Veterans Affairs and State Government Administration Committees for the 2021-2022 legislative session and will serve on three additional House committees.
“As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, it is my honor to once again lead the Veteran Affairs House Committee in Springfield to address issues impacting our Veterans including suicide, homelessness, unemployment and support for a return to civilian life,” Kifowit said. “I look forward to working on legislation that will support our service members, their families and veterans with dignity, honor and respect.”
In addition to her chairmanship roles, Kifowit was appointed to serve as vice-chair of the Appropriations – General Services Committee and as a member of the committees on Public Utilities and Revenue & Finance. The new House rules adopted for the 102nd General Assembly require each piece of legislation that is filed by the appropriate deadline to be assigned to a standing committee for consideration. Additionally, House committees will be allowed to meet and vote remotely during the current pandemic.
“Some of the most important work we do in the legislature is done through the committee process where we have an opportunity to vet and debate bills with my fellow legislators and stakeholders,” said Kifowit. “I am excited to get to work in this new legislative session and help our state government function more efficiently as the chair of State Government Committee, in addition to keeping public utilities accountable to Illinois residents and help find new, responsible, ways to help finance critical services for our most vulnerable while helping reduce the burden of unaffordable property taxes and fees for homeowners.”
