Owning a car is a two-sided coin: On the one hand, there is the freedom of mobility; on the other hand there are gas prices, flat tires, and trying to remember how often to get an oil change. Fear not, the Mechanic Shop Femme is here to help clear away the confusion!

Chaya Milchtein, founder of Mechanic Shop Femme, will be host to a virtual class at the Aurora Public Library District (APLD) from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, called “Before Your First Car: A Virtual Car Class.”

Her work has appeared, or has been featured, in publications ranging from The Chicago Tribune to Shondaland. With her seven years in the auto industry under her belt and three years of virtual courses, class members will be sure to find her class engaging and her information easy to understand.

On her website, Milchtein describes the learning environment that she strives to create, by stating “Understanding car ownership and maintenance can save you time, money, and hassle. At Mechanic Shop Femme, I created a space for you to ask your questions, even the ones you might be embarrassed to ask someone else, and the ones you haven’t even thought of. Educating yourself in a way that is not intimidating will help you take control at the shop, dealership, and of your vehicle.”

In this virtual class, participants will learn a wealth of tricks and tips that will be valuable to car owners of any age. Whether you still have your learner’s permit, or if you’ve been on the road for years, this class is for you. This class focuses on understanding what your car is trying to tell you, starting with dash-light recognition and responding to that, when your car should be towed instead of driven, and basic preventive maintenance everyone should know how to do. It’s a great starting point for a life-long educated consumer.

Participants can register for this event by visiting the Events page on the Aurora Public Library District website, www.aurorapubliclibrary.org/events.
