Nuggets fill the sports schedules:
• Ed Colton, football player at East Aurora High Schools in the mid-1940s, reminds that the Turner’s Club will be host to the Turner’s State gymnastics championship with nearly 1,000 competitors at the Aurora site Friday through Sunday.
• Naperville North High School captured second place in last weekend’s Illinois High School Association (IHSA) girls State badminton championship. Neuqua Valley was fourth place at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Bhaavya Manikonda of Naperville North took second place in singles.
• Neuqua Valley freshmen were impressive last week. Freshman Michael Baren performed quite well at the State gymnastics meet at Hoffman Estates High School. First-year Neuqua Valley girls triple jump performer, Riley Ammenhauser, had the best Class 3A sectional jump of 40-06.00 and second best among all three classes. The State meet will be Thursday through Saturday in Charleston.
• Boys high school track sectional meet sites: Glenbard North, Downers Grove North, Huntley, Plainfield South, St. Charles North, Glenbard South.
• Girls sectional track champions, 3A: West Aurora, Naperville North, Lake Park; 2A: Rosary.
• In girls water polo sectional play, Naperville North defeated Naperville Central, 5-3, to advance to the State meet at Stevenson High School. In boys, Naperville Central beat Lockport, 13-4, to gain State.
• Girls Class 1A soccer regional champions: Aurora Central Catholic, Joliet Catholic Academy. The 2A and 3A regional tournaments are held this week.
• Aurora University teams in NCAA tournament play this week include golf and baseball teams.
