The Yorkville Public Library joins the thousands of libraries across the United States who are celebrating libraries. There are approximately 117,000 libraries of all kinds, and more than 9,000 of those are public libraries. Those public libraries have more than 732 Million books.
Did you know:
• There are more public libraries than McDonald’s in the U.S., 16,220, including branches.
• Americans spend more than three times as much on salty snacks as they do on public libraries.
• Americans check out an average of more than six books a year. They spend $25.25 a year for the public library, much less than the average cost of one hardcover book.
• Public libraries are the number one point of online access for people without Internet connections at home, school or work.
More than 100 colorful library cards from around the United States are on display in the Yorkville Library’s lobby. In addition, there is a map of the 10 other towns, villages, neighborhoods and unincorporated communities that share the library name. Yorkville Public Library in Illinois, however, is the only public library with this name.
