As part of her ongoing efforts to promote environmentalism in the community, State representative Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, will be host to an Earth Day clean-up event with the Fox Valley Park District, Sierra Club, Kiwanis Club and Verilife Dispensary from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24.
“Small efforts make a large impact when it comes to improving our local environment,” said Hernandez. “By bringing individuals together to clean up Gregory Island Park (in North Aurora), we will make a big difference in our community this Earth Day.”
Hernandez invites local residents to attend the clean-up event, which will take place at Gregory Island Park, 100 East Indian Trail Road in North Aurora. Trash bags and gloves will be provided to volunteers. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced, and volunteers will be asked to wear face masks during the event. Individuals interested in volunteering at this event are asked to register in advance by visiting bit.ly/earthdayaurora.
In addition to community clean-up events, Hernandez has held numerous other community events that have focused on environmental advocacy and education, including environmental town hall events, electronic and paper shred events and energy saving clinics for homeowners. She has also supported several pieces of legislation that aim to help the environment, increase renewable energy efforts across the state, create more green jobs, and improve water and air quality for all Illinoisans.
“The Fox Valley Park District is very excited to work with representative Hernandez to bring this clean up event to the community this Earth Day,” said Jeff Palmquist, the director of planning, research, and grants at the Fox Valley Park District. “We hope to see community members come out, help clean up our riverfront park at Gregory Island, and enjoy the outdoors in a safe manner.”
