With few exceptions, the long haul counts significantly

It is the long haul which counts in this season’s Major League Baseball with a planned 162 games. Last season’s COVID-19-shortend season to 60 games was an entirely different approach and was necessary. With ups and downs for both Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs, each with injury problems and hitting or pitching problems it is a good idea to plan for the long haul.

The Sox were in first place through Monday by one game over Cleveland and the Cubs were in third place, three-and-a-half games behind St. Louis. The Sox had played 32 games, more than half of last season’s 60 games and the Cubs had played 34 games. Excitement may exceed expectations, however, we are not certain in the middle of May.

• The Minor League Baseball season is on the horizon and should be interesting. The Kane County Cougars, in Geneva, will not be in the Midwest League this season. The Midwest League dropped from 16 teams to 12 teams. Following 30 years in the Midwest League, the Cougars will be in the 12-team American Association this season.

• High School Summer Sports end the end of May, June 12, or, June 19, with few State tournaments. It is better than not playing at all

• The Oswego East High School track and field triangular Tuesday of last week varsity results: Minooka 215 points, Oswego, 206, Oswego East, 97.
