Surprise Blaney, Allmendinger, Larson, capture Cup races

NASCAR Cup Series, FireKeepers Casino 400, Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, Mich., Sunday, Aug. 22.

A surprise Ford vehicle came from nowhere with Ryan Blaney driving to win his second Cup race ahead of William Byron and Kyle Larson, who led much of the race. Following in fourth place was Kurt Busch, and Denny Hamlin was in fifth.

The first stage was led by Chase Elliott and Larson. With 22 laps to go Elliott took the lead and held off Austin Dillon for the victory.

Hendrick cars finished the second Stage with Kyle Busch taking the victory ahead of Chris Bell. Dillon crashed at finish line with contact from Brad Keselowski.

The final stage of the race was stopped because of light rain. Shortly after being restarted, a multi-car accident occurred with Chris Bell, Martin Truex, Jr., Joe Logano, and Ryan Newman were involved!

The last eight laps of race were competitive with Blaney in the lead and held off William Byron for a close finish.

NASCAR Cup Series, Verizon 200 at the Brickyard, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, Indianapolis, Ind., Sunday, Aug. 15.

AJ Allmendinger won the first-time NASCAR road course. Following in second place was Blaney, Larson in third place, Elliott in fourth, and Matt Dibenedetto in fifth.

First stage winner was Tyler Reddick.

Stage 2 winner was Reddick over favorite, Elliott.

The final stage of the race was lead by Keselowski, but soon was passed by Elliott.

At lap 89 a red-flag crash occurred involving Dillon, Cole Custer, and Reddick.

Over time Hamlin took the lead until he was booted by Chase Briscoe, which caused Briscoe to go off course and get penalized.

A major issue of the race was a metal curb, which caused cars to become airborne when they made contact. During a red flag the curb was pulled up.

After the red flag, Allmendinger, in third place, passed Denny Hamlin who spun out, and Allmendinger took the victory.

NASCAR Cup Series, Go Bowling at The Glen, Watkins Glen International, Watkins Glen, N.Y., Sunday, Aug. 8.

Larson won the race followed by teammate Elliott. In third place were Truex, Jr., Kyle Busch in fourth, and Hamlin in fifth.

Elliott and Ross Chastain each received a penalty from Nascar for pre-race inspection. Both cars had to start in the back and the crew chiefs were ejected from the event.

Front row were the Fords of Keselowski and Logano.

The first stage was won by Keselowski. The second stage was won by Truex, Jr., ahead of Bell.

Larson got to the lead with 25 laps to go in the third stage and held off teammate Elliott for the victory. Larson remains the points leader for the NASCAR Cup Series.
