Old memories fade, new hopes prevail in new seasons

In our seasons of change:

• In the rearview mirror are our hopes for the 2021 Chicago Cubs’ success. Hold our ears: We must wait until next year.

• Meanwhile, in spite of a comfortable lead, it is time for the Chicago White Sox to start playing better than .500 baseball.

• High school sports are on the horizon: all Fall sports are preparing. See the football schedules for the first games, Friday, Aug. 27.

• Meanwhile, changes do occur in high school formats. State swimming meets for many have been held at Evanston and New Trier High Schools.

• Starting this school year and at least for three years, State swim meets will be at the new Olympic-size pool, FMC Natatorium in Westmont.

• Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South High Schools will be hosts. Only Hinsdale South and Downers Grove South have been other hosts since 1943.

• Some fun-appearing high school games in football will be held the first two weekends.

•Hope springs eternal in playoff qualification for the Chicago Bears. Get out our Ouija boards.
