Fox Valley area climate activists will participate in international climate strike day of action at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at Simmons Park, 1191 E. Indian Trail, Aurora. Facemasks and social distancing are encouraged for the outdoor event that will go forward rain or shine.
Fridays for Future, a group connected to global climate activist, Greta Thunberg, launched an international day of action to be held September 24. Climate activist, Helen Ratzlow, decided to plan and be host to an event to draw more attention to the looming crisis.
“Everyone is talking about it now, but our politicians are still not acting with the kind of urgency and scale that we need,” said Ratzlow.
“We need to keep the pressure on them and continue to advocate for meaningful changes.”
The event will feature a dozen speakers from a variety of organizations. Ratzlow said the focus is on intersectionality and more than six local organizations have co-sponsored the event. Current co-sponsors include: Progressives of Kane County, West Suburban DSA, Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice, The Illinois Green Party, The DuPage County Democrats and Milton Township Democrats.
Progressives of Kane County has established a Facebook event page where details will be updated prior to the event. fb.me/e/UVNMJHym
The event will be livestreamed on Burning Media and Progressives of Kane County Facebook pages.
