On the first night of Hanukkah, Sunday, Nov. 28, Aurora area Jews brought the Festival of Lights to the City of Lights. Rabbi Mendy Goldstein, center, of the Chabad Jewish Center was joined in Aurora by Naperville City councilman Ian Holzhauer and Aurora alderwoman Shweta Baid, right, for an outside Hanukkah celebration. In a drive-in ceremony, the faithful and friends joined Rabbi Mendy Goldstein of the Chabad Jewish Center to light a giant menorah in a parking lot at Fox Valley Mall. After lighting the menorah, car horns honked, and some of the attendees even got out of their cars to dance. The Mall’s convenient location on Route 59 allowed the Jewish communities of Aurora and Naperville to safely attend the first-of-its-kind event. Representatives of both the Aurora City Council and the Naperville City Council were in attendance. The Chabad Jewish Center has events planned for each evening during Hanukkah, which will end December 28, including a family fun day and a menorah car parade. City of Aurora government photo
