Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association (AARTA) members delivered hats, mittens, scarves, socks and cash donations for needy kids Monday, Dec. 13.
Dick Schindel of Aurora, AARTA president, led a delegation that dropped off three garbage bags of Winter gear to Cities in Schools Aurora, a nonprofit. Additionally, $150 was donated by AARTA members at the organization’s December 14 luncheon at Gaslite Manor in Aurora.
According to Schindel, the donations represented AARTA’s annual December Supporting Kids project. Donations benefit Cities in School Aurora (CISA), formerly Communities in Schools, a nonprofit that provides free after-school and summer programs and counseling access to help Aurora area students achieve in school and in life.
Schindel said, “School officials have already contacted CISA for donations for their students. The needs of our school students are great.”
AARTA is an Aurora-based nonprofit of 370 former educators from Aurora, Batavia, and Kaneland school districts. The educational and service group holds in-person noon luncheon meetings on the first Tuesday of February, April, June, August, October and December at Gaslite Manor, Aurora. New members are welcome.
