Poem: Citing The New Year

Perhaps we haven’t seen a New Year’s quite like this’
The end to COVID-19, we don’t want to miss.
This thing has caused us to do things not done before;
It is far different than when we were at war.
Instead of rationing, stuff really was not there.
It limited our movement, something all would share;
But our reaction to that varied greatly then,
And even made things worse, time and time again.
And for a time it was like playing Russian Roulette’
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t, the only bet.
When ego begets throwing caution to the wind,
The perpetrator never sees the dangers pinned.
So 2021 has all our hopes on it;
Which basically includes our human grit.
