It’s no secret that the job market is a messy place right now. Those recently unemployed, or anyone looking for a career change, may have a difficult time knowing what the best move is to make. The Library is here with programs and services to help clear a path through the mess.
The Aurora Public Library District (APLD), in partnership with WorkNet Batavia, is offering a virtual workshop at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 for current job-seekers looking for work and for those looking for something new when they change careers. The experts from WorkNet Batavia provide personalized assistance to those in need, serving Kane, Kendall, and DeKalb Counties.
Business librarian Drea Flores knows the importance of helping in the community and local businesses. “Looking for a new job is a job all by itself. It can be draining to apply to jobs online day after day, so we wanted to create a presentation that holds a few other options for job-seekers to explore aside from just the daily grind of applying to jobs online,” said Flores.
During the workshop, a career resource navigator will guide participants through finding their next jobs and set up a plan to keep job searches on track. Registrants can look forward to gaining new strategies that include using LinkedIn, networking, working with employment/staffing agencies, and tailoring their resumes for applicant-tracking systems. More information about this event can be found at aurorapublibrary.org/event/5835282 including how to register for the Zoom meeting.
In addition to the Tuesday evening, Jan. 18 program, the Library offers online resources available 24/7 to continue job searches, update resumes, or hone a professional skill. One of the many databases is LinkedIn Learning, an online professional development platform with thousands of hours of instruction by subject experts to include software applications, programming, and communication skills. In addition, Brainfuse JobNow offers resume-building assistance including live help and easy to follow templates. Don’t forget AtoZ Databases, which has a jobs database with more than seven million jobs that update in real time. Eager job applicants can learn more about potential employers through comprehensive business profiles linked within the job postings. Your Aurora Public Library District card grants you access to these job search resources and so much more for free. Visit aurorapubliclibrary.org/databases-and-research to find all our online resources.
Don’t forget, the Aurora Public Library District posts current job openings at aurorapubliclibrary.org/join-our-team. By working for the library, perhaps one day you’ll have the opportunity to help someone find a path to successful employment.
