Carbon Capture and Storage: Are we caught in the fossil fuel industry’s dream?
The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report warns that the use of fossil fuels which create pollution and greenhouse gases, are greater than ever.
The need to reduce carbon emissions is greater than ever. We are running out of time.
But the fossil fuel industry has a solution that involves using more fossil fuels, not less.
Carbon Capture and Storage: The very expensive and high-risk ventures that fossil fuel interests hold in high regard will receive billions of dollars in funding from the federal bi-partisan infrastructure bill.
Our program May 9 will feature a brief presentation by Bill Koehl on the University of Illinois’ preliminary report of the Prairie State coal plant carbon capture project.
Followed by a program by Deni Mathews on CO2 from more than 20 ethanol and fertilizer plants in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Minnesota, are going toward central Illinois for deep underground permanent storage.
