Busy, we take time for an Independence Day

Independence Day holiday is and should be a big, wonderful, celebration. In spite of many problems, distractions, and problems, the founding of the country in a political sense was comparatively resolved, breathtaking, and led to solving governmental situations. We require comparable courage today.

It is a busy world for The Voice, which quietly shifted into Volume 15 a few weeks back. The Independence Day orientation of The Voice is filled with many items. In quick order, here are references, reviews, recollections, to be savored, seen, stored:

• Next week will appear within these pages an excellent tribute and thankfulness from Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora president Russ George, on the successful fundraiser Friday, June 24 in Aurora;

• Poised to be the lead article on page 1 this week was the Capitol New Illinois feature that State governor JB Pritzker likely will call a special session of the General Assembly in the coming weeks to strengthen women’s access to abortion and health services.

• Instead, on page 1 is an important and different reflection on items in the Lincoln Museum in Springfield, the State capital, by John T. Shaw on State politics.

• The Pritzker legislation consideration is in reaction to the Roe V. Wade abortion access overturn by the U.S. Supreme Court Friday, June 24. There will be many months of consideration. This week in The Voice, see writer Deena Sherman’s reaction.

• Museums in a geographical short hop which deserve consideration for visits, include First Division Museum at Cantigny Park in Wheaton and the Little White Schoolhouse Museum in Oswego.

• Controlling fireworks scofflaws can be difficult. Aurora legislation seeks to preserve safety. Page 4.

• Valued writer of the past century, Erma Bombeck, on Independence Day: “(We) celebrate not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file past the White House in a slow of strength, but, with family picnics, happiness, potato salad, (peace?)….”

• Loaves & Fishes has become a partner with DoorDash to help deliver groceries to those who need help.
