The Illinois General Assembly and City of Aurora government will commemorate a community leader with a street dedication at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16. The section of Route 31 in Aurora that runs from East Illinois Avenue to East Indian Trail Road will be dedicated as as the “Dan Dolan Way”.

“Mr. Dolan was a beloved, respected, and selfless citizen of the City of Aurora, one who dedicated himself to strengthening our community and enriching the lives of local residents,” said State representative Stephine Kifowit. “Naming a section of the highway in his honor is a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated so much of his life to the betterment of his community, country and neighbors,” said Kifowit.

Mr. Dolan died in February 2020 in Fountain Hills, Ariz., two days after his 89th birthday. After spending the majority of his life in Aurora, he served Aurora in many different capacities. He was graduated from East Aurora High School in 1949. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Knapp Destroyer during the Korean War. Mr Dolan worked as a mailman and sold pots and pans on the side, before helping to establish Dolan & Murphy Inc., a real estate company.

He was a pillar in his community. Daniel Dolan had an impact on generations of Aurorans through his philanthropy, generosity, and selfless service. He was proud of his involvement with Aurora Boys Baseball for more than 50 years and was supportive of fast-pitch softball.
