Dear editor;
Aurora Noon Lions Club just celebrated a big birthday: A century of service.
The occasion was marked during a 100th anniversary celebration July 26 at Gaslite Manor Banquets in Aurora.
It featured a centennial banquet, recognitions by the City of Aurora and Lions Clubs International, and included cake.
Susan Koepke of Aurora, Noon Lions president, said the 30-member organization began a yearlong celebration of its 100th birthday in January.
Members will observe the occasion through 2022 with varied events.
Saturday, Sept. 17, Noon Lions will sponsor free vision screenings for children ages six months to six years,
The screenings will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora.
The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.
Since 1922, Noon Lions have aided the blind and visually impaired, championed youth initiatives and strengthened local communities through hands-on service and humanitarian projects.
With the motto “We serve,” Aurora Noon Lions Club launches its second century of service to the Aurora community.
Men and women interested in serving are invited.
Club meetings are held on the first and third Thursdays at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora.
