The weather forecasts indicate Winter is on the way. The timing this year for Winter weather matches the calendar. The first day of Winter: Wednesday, Dec. 21. Thursday, Dec. 22 through Saturday, Dec. 24 the forecast indicates snow, cold, wind, bitter, temperatures. Earlier this week the weather forecast was for 7.5” of snow by December 24, Christmas Eve, although such dire predictions have diminished. Make no mistake, however, Winter conditions are here. Spring officially will arrive March 20.
We should expect nothing less these months. If we dress warmly we can be compatible with conditions. That’s why Winter sports and Winter fun can flourish.
Incompatible conditions persist, nonetheless, which is why warming centers in northern Illinois are most welcome. City government of Aurora issued an alert Tuesday this week that it will open a temporary overnight warming center for one week through the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the Aurora Transportation Center, (ATC) 233 N. Broadway, just north of downtown, a central location. ATC staff members will be on duty throughout the 12-hour period each day for those in need. Visitors to the nearby Hesed House have received notification of the overnight option. The warming center is based on temperature forecasts.
• The need increases for warming centers, shelters, and personal assistance primarily because the middle class has been under attack for more than 40 years. Sociologists have wide ranges to discuss of the separation in wealth, a topic for another time.
In brief here are important notes that should receive additional information in depth in the near future on what is happening and who we are here:
