It was a special celebration in Aurora for a budding centenarian! Lettie Baker turned 100 years old September 9!
Born September 9, 1923, in Tennessee, Lettie moved to Aurora 70 years ago.
Her children, niece, and approximately two dozen friends at The Pearl of Orchard Valley, gathered to celebrate her milestone birthday with cake, raspberry Jell-o, and flowers.
Aurora mayor Richard Irvin proclaimed September 9 as Lettie Baker Day in Aurora.
Soon after arriving in Aurora in the early 1950s, Lettie began working at the National Brush Company in Aurora, where she worked for 30 years until her retirement. She and her late husband raised two children.
When asked about her secret to longevity, Ms Baker said, “Just don’t give up and also be nice to people.”
