Recently, a ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed outdoor enthusiasts to the newest park in Aurora’s 6th Ward. Chet and Judy Albright Park officially opened Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 at 625 Iowa Avenue, Aurora, Ill.
Married for 56 years, Chet and Judy Albright dedicated their lives to helping the community. He was owner and operator of Northgate Barber Shop for nearly 25 years, for his first career. He served as alderman of Aurora’s 6th Ward from 1977 to 1985, elected to 3 terms. In addition, Chet worked at Mooseheart – the Child City (orphanage), was involved in boys baseball, and Rotary. His dedication and loyalty to Mooseheart brought him back to Moose International as a director of ritual and sports and he later became supreme secretary. Judy worked her entire career in the education field and spent many years serving special needs students at Hope D. Wall School and West Aurora High School.
The Park is the 6th newest park for the 6th Ward in the last 11 years. (New Haven Park, Blackhawk Park, Plum Park, Wilkinson Garden Park, and Palace Park have been built in the Ward). The Park was built on land where there were two residential buildings that had five units on it and from 1994 to 2011 generating 130 police calls for service. Now there is no need for police to respond these days because now there is no criminal activity here.
Funds for the Park came from the 6th Ward fund, city of Aurora, and former State Representative Linda Chapa-LaVia state of Illinois fund. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mike Saville, Lillan Perry, Mary Lou Chapa, Dean Albright and Patti Albright Edwards spoke.
