Mutual Ground invited everyone to Take Back the Night to raise awareness, support survivors, and work to end domestic violence, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, 1102 Cornell Lane, Yorkville.
The event will feature guest speakers, food trucks, informational tables, and kids activities.
Every October, Mutual Ground recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), which was first observed in 1981 as a national “Day of Unity,”. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is held as a way to unite advocates across the Nation in their efforts to end domestic violence. Communities and advocacy organizations across the country connect with the public and one another throughout the month to raise awareness about the signs of abuse and ways to stop it, and to uplift survivor stories and provide additional resources to leaders and policymakers.
In the United States, one in three women and one in four men experience some form of physical violence by an intimate partner, and nearly 20 persons per minute are experiencing physical abuse.
Mutual Ground offers support to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. Services aim to support survivors and their families, help them heal from the effects of trauma, learn new ways to cope, and empower them so that they can reclaim their lives.
Domestic Violence Services at Mutual Ground include: 24-hour crisis hotline, residential services, counseling services, family services, legal advocacy, and medical advocacy.
