Aurora resident Jason Lever’s favorite holiday always has been Halloween. He and his wife, Carrie, started with turning their living room into a mini-haunted house for friends and annual Halloween parties. Then the gatherings became so big, they moved the structure outside.
A contractor by trade, Jason focuses on home remodeling and has a true craft for visualizing and customizing spaces. The perfect combination of his passion for Halloween and his background has come together in their front yard.
They created this all-ages exhibit for the neighborhood to come together and enjoy something over Halloween, and every year it grows. They have received all sorts of reactions from visitors. The majority of the props are built from a conversation or idea that popped into Jason’s head.
The most common questions they receive are “How long did this take?” The answer is a little more than a month to put up, but they started building the newest addition July 5.
The second question is “where do they store it all?” That answer is many places!
To share the exhibit with the community, the Lever family decided they needed a name and a hashtag to boost publicity. This is where Biltmore Haunts comes from….their street name and the Haunted House.
The exhibit at 2509 Biltmore Circle, Aurora, IL 60503, is open Friday, Oct. 27, Sunday, October 29 through Halloween night from dusk until 9:30 p.m..
Note: Due to a private event, the exhibit is closed to the public Saturday, Oct. 28 and only those with a code will be able to enter the Haunted House.
There is no charge to go through but donations are encouraged. A portion of the donations go to the JED Foundation, which is a mental health charity their 16-year-old discovered, and was important to her to support. We all know how important mental health is.
