An exciting shopping experience and cultural activity is coming to the Fox Valley Mall this Christmas. The DuPage Hispanic Alliance will be host to the Midwest’s largest artisan Latin American Marketplace, December 16 and 17.
There will be more than 40 vendors selling everything from handcrafted purses knitted by the Wayúu tribe in Colombia to hand painted ornaments from Peru and Ecuador.
There will be tamales, chocolates, coffee, bilingual goods, clothing, jewelry and so many more unique treasures. Particicipants can sample signature-themed cocktails such as a Puerto Rican egg nog known as a Coquito, or a seasonal warm Sangria. and can stuff the stockings with Mexican candies. Most items are imported and none is sold in stores.
Make this time a family experience. You can watch the folklore dancers perform, play a game Lotería (Mexican bingo), paint a sugar skull at Arts on Fire, meet SuperNova (Chicago Red Stars mascot), be inspired by the beautiful alebrijes (brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of mythical creatures), bilingual story time, or make your own Latin American-themed banana pudding. Santa will be at the mall to hear all the gift requests
This time will not be any artisan market; it is a one-of-a-kind experience that normally requires a passport. If you enjoy the Christkindlmarket, you will love this indoor experience.
Come curious and leave inspired.
