NASCAR Monster Energy series, Gander Outdoors 400, Pocono Raceway, Long Pond, Pa., Sunday, July 29.
Daniel Suarez won his first poll position in a Joe Gibbs Toyota. However it was his teammate, Kyle Busch, who was in the right place at the end of the race to take first place. Following in second place was Daniel Suarez, Alex Bowman in third, Kevin Harvick in fourth, and Eric Jones in fifth place.
The first stage was won by Chase Elliott and the second stage easily was taken by Harvick. Brad Keselowski had the only other Ford, besides Harvick’s, to challenge for the lead, but his car blew out a tire and was wrecked late in the race.
With five laps to go, on turn one, Bubba Wallace, Jr. suffered brake rotor failure and caused a serious crash when he steered down towards the infield. A red flag was brought out to clean up and remove Wallace, Jr’s car.
Kyle Busch held off Suarez for a green white checker finish.
Three drivers have won 16 of the Cup races this season: Kyle Busch, Harvick, and Martin Truex, Jr..
NASCAR Monster Energy series, Foxwood Resorts Casino 301, New Hampshire Motor Speedway Loudon, N.H., Sunday, July 22.
There was a long rain delay before start of race with Kurt Busch starting at the top of the pole.
Harvick performed a bump and run on Kyle Busch with seven laps to go in the race to stay in the lead for the victory. Following Harvick was Kurt Busch in second place, Aric Almirola in third, Truex, Jr. in fourth, and Elliott in fifth.
It was Harvick’s sixth victory of the season.
Truex, Jr. won the first stage.
NASCAR Monster Energy series, Quaker State 400, Kentucky Speedway, Sparta, Ky., Saturday, July 14.
Truex, Jr. started on the pole, kept the lead for 174 laps, and won both stages, and won the overall race! Ryan Blaney took second place, Keselowski was in third, Kurt Busch was in fourth, and Harvick was in fifth.
• The NMRA (National Mustang Racers Association) and NMCA (National Muscle Car Association) Super-Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing was held at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, July 26-29.
Father and son team of Josh and Richard Ritli of Newark and Aurora qualified eighth in the Nitrous class in their 1969 Camero drag car.
There were many cars running faster than four seconds in the eighth-of-a-mile and some more than 200 miles per hour. Quite a meet!
