Last week we made it to Lake Street in Aurora in the recapture of businesses in Aurora in past years.

Just one-half block from Lake Street, on West New York Street, on the south side, was another Prince Castle restaurant with burger and one-in-a million shakes.

South on Lake Street, from East New York Street, on the west side was a Cab Company.

Down the street on the northeast side, of Galena Boulevard and South Lake was and still is Foremost Liquors.

Kiddie corner, on the southwest corner, may have been a gas station and Bumpers Hot Dogs.

It is a Mexican Torta place now.

South, towards Downer, on the west side used to be Jewel Foods.

My mother worked there, before she was married.

It’s now Lamphere’s Furniture.

There were buildings across the street that were torn down for Old Second’s drive-up.

South, just before Benton Street, on the west side, was Aurora Fire Station, No. 3.

South of Benton, on the east side, houses were torn down, for the new Santori Aurora Public Library and parking.

South at Gale Street, northeast corner, was an old gas station and later a test lane for vans and pick-ups.

South of Prairie Street, on the west side, was Abraham Lincoln School.

Towards Jericho Road, just south of the railroad track bridge was the Italian American Club which had dinners on Friday nights.

At Arnold Avenue and South Lake Street was the original Prisco Food Store. Just east was an Italian neighborhood.

See you next week.
