Poem: A Musing sonnet

Throughout my lifetime there have been but few
Who touched me in a way I would applaud;
Who made me think it was by grace of God
That we would meet, a chance out of the blue.
This would not happen every day, I knew;
Almost remarkable…indeed, quite odd,
Not something to which normally I’d nod,
But something that I knew I’d like to do.
As always, vagaries of life prevail,
Where budding friendships slide, and then are lost.
Where then you wonder why they had to fail;
Now often thinking back, emotions tossed.
The adage which insists “We Live and Learn,”
Cannot explain, or lessen, thoughts that burn.
