The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) invites you to cozy up with a good book and a warm drink and embark on an exciting Winter Reading Adventure (WRA)! This annual program is a delightful way to beat the winter blues, foster a love of reading, and connect with your library and community. This year’s program runs from December 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025 and features a host of new activities and prizes to inspire every reader.
The Winter Reading Adventure is designed to be inclusive and fun for all ages. “We thoughtfully crafted our BINGO cards to include various activities that align with the different ways people enjoy the library,” said events & program coordinator Ali Lanthrum. “Participants can expect a variety of activities that go beyond just reading.” Library resources like Hoopla and Libby apps, the Library of Things collection, and staff recommendations will keep participants engaged. “WRA encourages readers to discover new genres, revisit old favorites, and try exciting activities,” said reader’s services coordinator Becky Clark. “It’s also a wonderful opportunity for families to bond over books and library adventures!”
Back again this year is the popular WRA completion prize mug for teens and adults, which has been an absolute hit. “These are really nice, substantial mugs-great for soup, oatmeal, or a big marshmallow-filled hot chocolate!” said Clark. “I’ve had a couple of customers tell me they’re collecting their WRA mugs for a set, which is so cool to hear.”
New this year is the chance at an additional prize for participants who go above and beyond. “Based on participant feedback, we’re introducing Grand Prize drawings for those who complete their entire BINGO card,” said Lanthrum. Prizes include a Toniebox for kids and an Amazon Fire Tablet for teens and adults. “In previous years we had some customers do all the activities, beyond the 5-activity BINGO, even though you didn’t get prize for that.” said Clark. “We thought it would be fun this year to encourage people to go further and offer a special drawing entry for completing all the activities.”
WRA will start with not one but two celebratory events! The first party will be at Santori Library’s First Friday event Friday, Dec. 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the second Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Eola Road Branch. These events will feature live harp and oboe performances, crafts, treats, and a festive atmosphere. “The live music is going to be fantastic,” Lanthrum said. “I can’t wait to see the joy on everyone’s faces!”
Don’t miss this chance to make winter reading magical! Pick up your BINGO card at any APLD location or join the fun by registering online. For more details, visit www.aurorapubliclibrary.org/wra or contact the library at 630-264-4117. Have fun on your adventure!
